How to Avoid a Salvage Title Car Purchase

A salvage title is issued to a car that has been totally branded as a loss by an insurance company as a result of damages to the car in an accident or flooding. What this means is that the amount needed to repair the car is more than what the car actually worth. Over 75% of the car has been eroded. Cars with a salvage title are not safe for driving and they are designated as not road worthy.

The title of a car is meant to show what the vehicle has been through in the past. It tells whether the car has ever been totaled, and whether the odometer has ever been rolled back.

Reasons why a Car Might Have a Salvage Title

Here are some of the reasons why a car might have a salvage title;

· Accidents: If a car is involved in a serious accident that resulted in the car getting severely damaged, then such a car will be branded with a salvage title.

· Flood: Another reason why a car may be branded with a salvage title is if it has been damaged as a result of flood in the part such that some of its component parts are no longer functional.

· Collision: If a car is seriously damaged as a result of a collision, it is also branded with a salvage title.

A car branded as salvage can still get to be rebuilt or reconstructed. When a car that was previously branded as salvage is repaired and fixed, it will have to undergo inspection, if it is now seen to have been properly fixed, then it will be rebranded with a rebuilt title. This means the car is now certified to be safe for driving again and it is now roadworthy.

The laws and regulation governing how a car is branded varies from one state to another. Hence, you need to check with your local Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) to know what a particular brand means or depicts.
